Environmental Policy and our Conservation Work

We endeavour to minimise consumption, maximise re-use and recycle as much of our materials and consumables as we can. We use energy-saving equipment whenever possible.

We are pleased to have achieved 100% renewable energy supplies for our manufacturing units. We take electricity from Good Energy for both units, and don't use any gas supply. Good Energy offer 100% renewable electricity. Indeed, we also have solar panels and generate some of that electricity for Good Energy ourselves!

We try to encourage recycling of the packaging we use in our products. If you see used packaging surrounding your products, it's because we re-use that too!

As well as using renewable energy in our own home and office (solar panels and wood-burning stove), we are also active in the field of wildlife conservation.

Alvecote Wood Ancient Oak Woodland

We own an ancient woodland wildlife site close to our home called Alvecote Wood full of ancient trees, coppice, ponds, wildflower meadows and a new 9-acre native woodland called Bettys Wood. We love our planet, and put both our money and time where our mouth is in trying to preserve this beautiful wildlife site for future generations. With the aid of many local volunteers, we planted over 5,000 trees to establish Betty's Wood in the winter of 2010-11 and further planting has happened since. We encourage local community groups to use the site and the Scouts and other groups have camped there on multiple occasions. We encourage visits from schools, wildlife societies, and have even had a wedding party taking their photographs and a fashion shoot there!

A Four-Spotted Chaser Dragonfly

We never realised there would be a cross-over between a wildlife site and the security business when we took on our own conservation project, but after several break-ins and attempted thefts of various items, we continue to use several items from our range for protecting our own property and have developed several new deterrents.

Royal Forestry Society Award for Alvecote Wood

We are delighted that we have won a very prestigious award from the Royal Forestry Society for our conservation work at Alvecote Wood, now officially the Best Small Woodland in England! Click on the link here to read the 2014 announcement from the RFS. This was following-on from us winning a regional award for Excellence in Forestry in 2013 (Click to see the 2013 RFS Press Release).

This project has been taken as an example of best practice in ancient woodland management and we are very pleased that this is helping to spread awareness of the need to manage and protect ancient woodlands.

We are further delighted and indeed honoured that we have been awarded the first Grown in Britain licence for small woodlands. Grown in Britain is a government initiative to promote sustainable forestry in the UK, encouraging management of woodlands and providing certified timber products within a UK supply chain. There is more information about our project on the Grown in Britain web site.

We are very grateful to the Forestry Commission and to the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust for their ongoing advice and support, and especially to our numerous volunteers that have helped with this project.

More information is available on our web site dedicated to Alvecote Wood.
